CEO for the day

On the 20^th of July was our CEO for the Day, and it was a genuine pleasure from start to finish.

Eight pupils held the trust's senior posts for the day: CEO, COO, CFO and Estates Lead, each with a deputy. None of them were handed the roles. They applied, they were interviewed, and they were selected on the strength of what they put forward, which is exactly as it should be. Those who were not appointed were written to individually, just as they would be for any job, and received a letter of appreciation for putting themselves forward. Every one of them arrived dressed for the job, several in full suits, and they carried themselves accordingly.

The day was a real one, not a ceremonial one. They visited each of our three schools, carried out health and safety inspections, did some woodworking, reviewed lessons, worked through finance tasks and took part in HR activities. They then met with heads to plan an agenda, and finished by meeting with members. They asked sharp questions, and they did not let anyone down. As part of the tradition, Malcolm from North Crescent, this year's CEO for the Day, will have his photograph mounted in the HQ office alongside the historic post holders, with a name plaque. That wall matters. It says that a child from one of our schools stood in this role and is now part of the record of who has led this trust.

It is a rite of passage for our Year 6 pupils at exactly the point when they are about to leave us, and it tells us that leadership is not a thing that happens to other people. They see the job, they do the job, and they leave knowing they were capable of it. Change makers of the future: "Prepared for the world that awaits"
